Eagle City Gallery Artist of the Month for August 2010
Tim Bower, Photography
"In the day age where the megapixel seems to be king I find it to be a breath of fresh air in shooting film, I don't rely on the camera to take my image or use the workings of a photo shop to adjust the image. I prefer to let my eye, the light and the angle capture the image."
The images that you see are Polaroid Impressionism Photography, shot with a Polaroid One Step, and manipulated within minutes of the photo "popping" out of the camera. Tim uses the tips of his sun glasses, nickels, pens or whatever he can find to manipulate the image. He scans them in order to take them to the size that you see today. Although he still shoots traditional film from time to time, the Polaroid form of lomography has really taken over his photography life.
Tim invites you to enjoy the images, and understand that not one megapixel has been involved. There is no photo shop or memory card involved in the capture of these images. For Tim there is just a camera, film and the 10 inches behind the lens.
Tim is a native of Boise where he raised his family and where he resides today together with his wife of 25 years. He studied photography from local photographer, Howard Huff. It was through him where he learned that the most important part of the camera is the 10 inches behind the lens. He believes it to be so to this day.
